Four policemen including an assistant police super and the officer-in-charge of Khagrachhari sadar have been injured when gamblers attacked them at Kamalchhari of the district.
The injured are Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sadar circle) Mohammad Sarowar Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar police station Md Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ratan and Constable Abul Kalam.
All the injured police members were admitted at Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital.
Superintendent of Police SK Md Mizanur Rahman said: "Acting on a tip-off, a group of police led by ASP Md Sarowar Alam went to Kamalchhari Government Primary School ground around 8:30pm on Friday to arrest gamblers.
"Sensing the presence of police, the gamblers started throwing brick-bats and stone on them that left four policemen injured."
Police filed a case against 10 identified including a Kamalchhari Union Parishad member and 200-250 unidentified men for their alleged involvement in the attack.
The identified gamblers are Kamalchhari UP member Binoy Kumar Chakma, Birobahu Chakma, Santosh Chakma, Bola Chakma, Saptamoni Chakma, Ananta Chakma, Aya Chakma, Polash Chakma, Raten Chakma and Paltu Chakma.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Detective Branch (DB) Md Jahir Amin filed the case with Khagrachhari aadar police station on Saturday morning.
