Telephone lines of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in Gaibandha district have again gone out of order.
This time it has gone out of order for last 21 days due to technical problem in telephone exchange tower.
This is the third time the connection got disrupted within six months in the district.
It was first disrupted on September 5, 2014 due to technical problem and was reconnected on September 15 after being mended by the engineers came from Dhaka.
The connection went out of order just one week after it reconnected and BTCL officials managed to resumed its service again after 22 days of disruption on October 7.
But, the connection disrupted for the third time from February 18 and the BTCL official are yet to confirm any specific date for restoring the service.
As a result, more than 1,600 telephone users of government, non government offices have to see many of their works disturbed. They also are disconnected from the regular communication with other districts including capital city Dhaka.
All sorts of businesses here have to face serious disruption due to the disorder of the telephone connections.
The BTCL telephone user alleged that the local engineers are careless about providing required service that caused the disruption in regular basis.
Kafil Uddin, assistant director of BTCL, Gaibandha unit, denied the allegation and said local engineers have been putting their highest effort to restore the exchange tower but they failed to rescue it.
“Engineers from Dhaka, Rangpur, Bogra have been trying to make the service operational,” he said.
Gaibandha Fire Service and Civil Defense Joint Assistant Director Md Kobat Ali said: “We couldn't manage to contact with other districts and people remained disconnected from our services due the disruption.”
E-mails, faxes and other internet based activities have also remained suspended for the disruption in the telephone exchange tower.
People of Gaibandha demanded immediate action from government to restore the telecommunications services.
