Hartal relaxed for celebrating Tigers' victory

The BNP-led 20-party alliance has relaxed its ongoing 72 hours nationwide hartal for 12 hours from Tuesday morning for celebrating the Bangladesh cricket team's historic victory against England in the World Cup.

“The BNP has decided to relax its ongoing hartal for 12 hours for the victory celebration,” Nazrul Islam Khan, BNP standing committee member, made the announcement through a press release.

The announcement came hours after the Tigers secured their position in the World Cup quarter-final and knocked England out from the game.

“The 20-party alliance will bring out a victory march on Tuesday across the country, celebrating the victory of the Bangladesh cricket team for stepping into the quarter-final in the ICC World Cup for the first time.”

“All were asked to make the programme successful,” he added.

He also said the alliance chief congratulated the players and officials of the Bangladesh cricket team for the victory, and hoped that the victory would continue in the future.

Nazrul Islam Khan also declared a fresh 60-hour shutdown from 6:00pm Tuesday till 6:00am Friday.

The BNP-led alliance has been observing the strike, protesting what it calls killings, mass arrests and torture of party activists, and “restoration of democracy.”

The country has witnessed a nationwide strike on all weekdays since February 1 alongside the ongoing nationwide transport blockade.
