ISIS takes Bangladeshi hostage in Libya

A Bangladeshi national has been taken hostage by the Islamic militant group ISIS in Libya.

The militant outfit abducted Helal Uddin, from Jamalpur district, along with eight other foreign nationals from Al-Ghani oil field, the south of the city of Sirte in Libya.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli has confirmed about the abduction, said a press release issued by the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Sunday.

According to the release, the incident took place when gunmen invaded the Al-Ghani oil field on Friday, killing 11 guards, and beheading a number of them before local forces fought back to retake control.

Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli is trying to find out the whereabouts of the abducted Bangladeshi national and is also in close contact with National Oil Company (NOC) of Libya and the concerned company VAOS where the incident took place.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the incident with Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli.
