Hearing on Kamaruzzaman review plea Apr 1

The Supreme Court has fixed April 1 for hearing the petition filed by Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman seeking review of the top court's verdict that upheld the death sentence given to him by Tribunal 2.

A four-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha fixed the date on Monday morning following a time petition, according to the SC website.

Kamaruzzaman filed the petition on March 5.

The Jamaat leader sought acquittal from the charges of crimes against humanity, citing 44 grounds.

The tribunal on February 19 issued a warrant to execute the death sentence of Kamaruzzaman, a day after the release of the full text of his appeal judgment.

On November 3 last year, the SC upheld the death penalty to Kamaruzzaman handed down by ICT 2 for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
