50 injured in Habiganj clash

At least 50 people have been injured in a clash between the inhabitants of five villages over establishing supremacy in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj.

Of the injured, 20 were admitted to Habiganj sadar hospital in a critical condition.

Locals said there was a longstanding dispute between expatriate Shamsu Mia of Khagaura village and Kamal Mia of Ujirpur village, over establishing supremacy.

Following the feud, the inhabitants of the villages locked into a clash with locally made weapons at Khagaura ground on Sunday morning.

Later, people from three other neighbouring villages joined the clash that left 50 people injured.

Baniachong OC Nirmolendu Chakraborty said police brought the situation under control.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further untoward situation.
