The railway communication of Dhaka with Chittagong, Sylhet and Noakhali has been cut off after the derailment of six bogies of a Dhaka-bound train near Puniaut rail crossing area in Brahmanbaria.
Brahmanbaria Railway Station Master Mohidur Rahman said the derailment took place at 10:45am on Thursday.
“The accident snapped rail communication between Dhaka and Chittagong, Sylhet and Noakhali. The reason behind the accident could not be known immediately,” he said.
A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the derailment.
Managing Director of Railway (East) Mozammel Hoque said the probe body was asked to submit its report within very short period of time.
None were injured in the accident.
A rescue train from Akhura had left for the scene to start the rescue operations, added the official.
