An on-duty Assistant Sub-Inspector of police has been crushed under the wheels of a bus on the Barisal-Dhaka highway.
The deceased is Manirul Islam, ASI of Barisal Airport police station, of Barisal Metropolitan Police.
Officer-in-Charge of Airport police station Shaheduzzaman said ASI Monirul was on-duty at Rampatty near Rahamatpur checking post.
The accident took place around 7:30pm on Monday when he signalled to stop a BMF Paribahan bus, plying on the Barisal-Mawa route, he added.
The driver was trying to ignore the signal, and he hit and crushed the police officer on the spot, the official said.
The bus driver managed to flee from the scene, the OC said.
The body was sent to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
