The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 1 has indicted Obaidul Haque, alias Taher, and Ataur Rahman alias Noni for their alleged crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member panel of ICT-1, framed six charges against them on Monday, reports BSS.
The tribunal set April 5 for submission of the opening statement by the prosecution and recording the depositions of the witnesses against the duo.
Justice Rahim read out the charges framed against the duo first and then asked them whether they are guilty or not.
The duo pleaded not guilty. After that the tribunal set a date to start the trial officially.
On December 4, 2014, the prosecution had submitted a formal charge against these two alleged Razakar kingpins from Netrokona.
According to the prosecution, Noni and Taher as Razakar leaders carried out heinous crimes in 1971 in Netrokona sadar and Barhatta areas. They are accused of being involved in the killings of 15 innocent civilians and setting fire to 400/450 houses.
They occupied the house of Moloy Bihari Biswas in Mokterpara area of Netrokona town and established a Razakar camp there. They carried out crimes like genocide, murder, arson, looting and torture from that camp.
