Longer off-shore survey contracts denied

International geophysical companies urged the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation, widely known as Petrobangla, to extend the tenure of a 10-year offshore seismic survey project which is currently in its pre-bid stage.

The objective of the project is to carry out a marine 2D seismic survey of the sovereign offshore areas of Bangladesh on a non-exclusive multi-client basis in water depths ranging from 20 metres to 2,500 metres.

Interested firms also urged the expansion of the exploration range to less than 20 metres, at a pre-bid meeting with Petrobangla at its office yesterday.

“We have agreed to one of their demands. We will let them survey from less than 20 metres. But it is not possible to extend the tenure of the deal,” Md Qumruzzaman, director of production sharing contracts of Petrobangla, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
