30 injured in Savar fire panic

Thirty people have been injured in a stampede when the garment workers were stepping down from the factory following fire panic.

The incident took place at Next Collection in Narshinghapur area of Ashulia around 11am on Sunday.

Ashulia Industrial Police Director Mostafizur Rahman said: "Some 25-30 workers were stampeded while they were gettiing out from the factory after being paniced by fire news."

"Of the injured, four workers are in critical condition," he said.

The injured were admitted to the local Women and Children Hospital, the police official added.

Harunur Rashid, assistant manager of the hospital, said 18 people were admitted so far.

Workers said they got news that a fire originated from an electric short circuit at the third floor of factory in the morning.

Later, they made hurry to get out from the factory that left 30 people injured.

Factory's Administrative Officer Ismail Hossain said sparkle of fire created due to an electric short circuit but the factory authorities controlled it immediately.
