Three suspected robbers have been killed in gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Sundarbans of Sharankhola range in the district.
Two of the deceased are Saddam, 27, and Sohel, 26, while the identity of the third could not be known immediately, reports BSS.
All were members of a local gang called Sagor-Saikat Bahini, said RAB.
The shootout took place around 7.30am Thursday when the criminals fired gunshots at a RAB 8 patrol team at Katlar Khal (lake) of Sharankhola range, forcing the RAB officers to fire back, and triggering the one-hour long gunfight, said Captain Hasibul Haque of RAB-8.
After the gunfight came to an end, RAB officers found three bodies, 12 different types of firearms, and 55 bullet rounds on the spot, he added.
The bodies were handed over to Sharankhola police station. Filing of cases is underway in this connection.
