The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has ordered both the prosecution and defence to submit the summary of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami’s appeal within two weeks.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order on Tuesday morning.
Nizami’s appeal order was enlisted in Tuesday’s cause list of the SC for order.
On October 29, 2014, Nizami was sentenced to death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
On November 23, 2014, the defence lawyers of the war criminal appealed in the apex court challenging the verdict.
