The death toll from the launch capsize on the Paturia-Daulatdia route of the Padma River has risen to 69.
MV Mostafa, which locals said was carrying around 200 passengers, capsized in the river after cargo trawler Nargis 1 broadsided it on Sunday afternoon.
Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Rashida Ferdous said: "So far, 69 bodies have been recovered from the river."
Earlier in the morning, Shibalaya UNO Galib Khan said rescuers recovered 48 bodies on Sunday and 24 more bodies were recovered till 5:30am, Monday.
Of the bodies, 57 were identified and handed over to their families.
The BIWTA will provide Tk1.05 lakh to the families of each victim, said the deputy commissioner.
She said the administration did not have any report of missing passengers.
However, relatives of the sunken launch passengers alleged that many were still missing.
DC Rashida Ferdous said: "The operation for recovering bodies from the capsized launch is declared closed. But, search for floating bodies in the river will continue."
Rescue vessel "Rustom" joined the operation around 11:30pm and recovered the sunken launch MV Mostafa at 4am.
Master of cargo vessel Nargis 1 and his three assistants were arrested in connection with the launch capsize.
The Department of Shipping formed a three-member probe committee to determine the cause of the accident and identify those who were responsible.
Passenger launch MV Mostafa is rated to carry 140 passengers, but is believed to have been overloaded. The exact number of those on board has not yet been determined.
Police seized cargo vessel Nargis 1, which ran head on into the side of the passenger vessel causing it to capsize, and arrested shipmaster Iqbal and his assistant Shahidul.
MV Mostafa was going to Daulatdia from Paturia while Nargis 1 was headed for Baghbari in Sirajganj.
