111 fishermen jailed in India return

A total of 111 Bangladeshi fishermen, who were detained in various Indian jail, returned home yesterday.

The returnees are from different areas of Cox’s Bazar, Barguna and Patuakhali districts.

A team of Samsar Nagar police station of India’s South Chabbish Pargana district handed over the Bangladeshi fishermen to Shyamnagar police at Zero point along the bordering Kalinchi River in Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira around 1:45pm, said a BGB release

Officer-in-Charge of the Shyamnagar police station Aminul Islam received the fishermen along with five trawlers.

Shyamnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Sayed M Manzur Alam, Commanding Officer Lt Col Mohammad Khaled Bin Yusuf of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nildumur 34 Battalion and its Operation Officer Major Mamun were also present.

Shyamnagar OC Aminul Islam said the 111 fishermen in five trawlers were arrested in different times as they entered the Indian water territory illegally while catching fish in the sea.
