The government will build a digital university within its current tenure to expedite achievement of its national target to build a knowledge-based digital Bangladesh, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a House meeting on Wednesday, while replying to a tabled question by lawmaker Nurjahan Begum, reports BSS.
In this regard, the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh Act 2014" has been approved at the cabinet meeting, he said.
"Digital University will be specialised. It will offer degrees on different subjects related to modern technology in this changing world," he added.
The proposed university subjects include digital technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology, digital development, advanced technology, instructional technology, green technology, software engineering, hardware engineering, telecommunication engineering, robotics, information technology and information technology-enabled services, cloud computing, e-commerce, cyber security and management, said Nahid.
Replying to another tabled question by lawmaker Mir Mostaq Ahmed Roby, the minister said the government has a plan to build a public or private university in every district.
At present, a total of 117 public and private universities are operating in the country, he added.
