Mobile phone operator Robi has introduced a simplified international roaming service for travellers to 100 countries.
A single rate will be applicable for the countries. In 72 countries, there will also be a daily data roaming pack.
International roaming is a service, which enables a person to use his local mobile number in abroad.
Robi’s chief operating officer Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said as the economy grows, a large number of Bangladeshis are travelling abroad for business, tourism and medical treatment.
The service has been introduced in response to the increasing necessity of an easy and affordable roaming service, he said while speaking at a press conference at a city hotel yesterday.
Besides, replying to a question about increasing trend of using communication applications like Viber, WhatsApp and Skype, Mahtab said the services are yet to become a threat for the country’s traditional telecommunication industry. “Such services are emerging in the market, but have not yet come as a threat for the traditional telecom industry.”
