Rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country has resumed after eight hours, following the derailment of a Khulna-bound fertiliser-laden train carriage near Shingia railway station.
The rail link was restored at 5pm Tuesday, Assistant Station Manager Sharifuzzaman of Jessore Railway Station said.
The derailment had occurred earlier at 9:20am.
The assistant station manager said: “The accident snapped rail communication between Khulna and the nation.”
A rescue train from Khulna reached the spot around 2pm and rail communication resumed after they carried away the derailed compartment around 5pm, he added.
No one was injured in the accident.
“It was not a case of sabotage,” said Jessore Police ASP Reshma Sharmin.
