Sujan: Shun violence, work towards compromise

Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (SUJAN), an NGO that advocates good governance, yesterday arranged a human chain in the city demanding restoration of peace and harmony, and working towards a compromise for resolving the current political standoff.

“Solution to this crisis is not possible without dialogue. Political parties resolve their problems politically,” SUJAN President M Hafizuddin Khan said addressing the human chain formed in front of National Museum in Shahbagh.

Hafizuddin Khan demanded an immediate initiative to arrange a national dialogue and preparing a national charter for sustainable solution to the political crisis.

SUJAN Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder said already 90 innocent persons were killed in the ongoing violence, and demanded immediate ending of violence and subversive activities in the name of movement, exemplary punishment to criminals and curbing terrorist activities with iron hand.

He also demanded an end to extra-judicial killings. Dr Majumder urged the prime minister to resolve the ongoing political stalemate.

He also called on the president to take initiative for dialogue if the prime minister does not take it.

Speaking at the function, former election commissioner Brig Gen (Retd) M Shakhawat Hossain said the common people who are not involved in politics are the worst victims of the blockade and violence.

“The political situation is going out of control of politicians, which may be seriously harmful for the country and the nation,” he said.

Politician Ruhin Hossain Prince and SUJAN executive committee member Dr Hamida Banu, among others, took part in the human chain.

SUJAN also demanded expediting the trial process of war criminals and quick implementation of the court’s judgement, banning religion-based politics and upholding democratic rights ending political harassment, said a press release.
