People of Rajshahi, Rangpur,Barisal, Khulna,Faridpur, Natore, Barguna, Chuadanga, Habiganj, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Madaripur and Narsingdi districts observed the National Mourning Day and 39th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday with due solemnity.
Our Rajshahi correspondent reports: People of Rajshahi and its adjoining districts observed the day with a fresh vow to materialize the dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a 'Sonar Bangla' and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.
Various government and non-government organisations, political parties, socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, including Rajshahi University and RUET, chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The day's programms began with hoisting of national flags and black flags at half-mast, placing of wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, offering special prayers and bringing out mourning processions.
The district administration organized a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil at the Shilpakala Academy Auditorium in observance of the day.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
Rangpur correspondent said the district administration, Rangpur City Corporation , Awami League and its front organisations, different socio-cultural and political organisations, educational institutions and other organisations observed the Day paying due tribute to Bangabandhu.
The daylong programmes included hoisting of the national flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions, hoisting of black flags, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, wearing black badge, one-minute silence and discussion on Bangabandhu.
The city mayor, high officials of the divisional, district and police administrations, AL leaders first placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Central Shaheed Minar, wore black badges and observed one-minute silence there before bringing out a huge mourning procession brought out by the district administration.
According to Barisal correspondent, marking the 39th anniversary of killing Bangobandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, district and city units of ruling AL, different political, socio-cultural organizations, educational institutions, district administration and family members of the eight martyrs of Barisal on August 15 separately organised programmes on the occasion.
Khulna correspondent said the day was observed in the city and elsewhere of the district by paying rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
District Administration, Awami League , Khulna Press Club, Khulna University , Khulna University of Engineering and Technology and different socio-cultural, political and professional bodies organized elaborate programmes to mark the day.

Hundreds of people including students, teachers, journalists, elites and farmers, thronged on the premises of city's Khulna Beter Kendra and placed wreaths at the sculptor of Bangabandhu this morning.
Faridpur correspondent said the day was observed here with due solemnity and in a befitting manner. In the morning, national flag was hoisted at half- mast atop all public, private and business organizations buildings.
A mammoth mourning rally participated by students, government officials and a cross section of people was brought out from the premises of deputy commissioner's office. The rally paraded the main thoroughfares before terminating on Ambica Maidan where a big size portrait of Bangabandhu is kept.
The day was also observed in Natore, Barguna, Chuadanga, Habiganj, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Madaripur and Narsingdi districts.
