President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday stressed the importance of Bangladesh Coast Guard’s role in protecting the national maritime boundary and coastal belt.
In separate messages issued on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard and Coast Guard Day 2015 today, the president and the prime minister hoped for sincerity and patriotism from the coast guard in maintaining maritime defence.
“The coast guard has been playing important role to curb piracy, smuggling and illegal fishing, and protect oil, gas and forest resources in the country’s maritime boundary and coastal belt,” the president said in his message.
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoped that the members of the coast guard would ensure foolproof security of the country’s maritime and coastal region by utilising their knowledge and experience.
Both the president and the prime minister wished gradual success of the coast guard and greeted its members on the occasion.
