Nahid: SSC exams to be finished in time

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has expressed his firm determination to finish the Secondary School Certificate and equivalent exams in due time despite the ongoing blockade and shut down.

He said: “We will finish the ongoing exams successfully and the results will also be published in due time.”

The minister made the statement while inspecting the Motijheel Ideal School and College exam centre on Friday morning.

Earlier on Saturday, the government has rescheduled two papers of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination set to be held on Sunday and Tuesday due to the hartal called by the BNP-led alliance.

Sunday's exam was held from 9am to 12pm on Friday and Tuesday's exam will be held from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.

The Secondary School Certificate and equivalent exams have been postponed several times due to the ongoing transport blockade called by the BNP-led alliance.

Replying to query, the minister said: “Under no circumstances will two SSC examinations be held in one day.”

The 20-party alliance has been enforcing general strikes, despite nationwide SSC examinations in which about 1.5 million students are taking part.

The SSC examination was scheduled to begin on February 2 with the Bangla paper I. But the exam was shifted to February 6 because of 20-party alliance's 72-hour hartal.

Later, the Bangla paper II exam which was scheduled for February 4, was shifted to February 7 as the opposition alliance extended its shutdown till 6am on February 6.
