A Jhalakati court has awarded death penalty to five members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in public prosecutor Haider Hossain murder case.
The court of Jhalakati Additional Session Judge MD Abdul Halim pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon, eight years after the advocate was shot dead.
Assailants opened fire on Haider on April 11 in 2007 when he came out of a mosque in the town after the Esha prayers.
Earlier, JMB kingpin Shaikh Abdur Rahman, military commander Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai and five of their accomplices were hanged for killing senior assistant judges Jagannath Pandey and Sohel Ahmed in Jhalakathi town.
