The police have recovered a box of ammunitions, which are suspecting to be abandoned by Pakistan army during the 1971 Liberation War, from a pond in Bandar area of the port city.
The ammunition-box containing 310 rounds of bullet and 12 magazines of Light Machine Gun (LMG), have been found in an iron-box while digging soil at a pond named Kalamma Pukur Par in Mashrapara area in the afternoon.
“Being Informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the box,” said SI Rezaul Karim of Bandar police station.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Port) Mostak Ahmed of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) told Dhaka Tribune: Made in Pakistan seal was crafted inside the ammunition-box and police suspected that the ammunitions might have abandoned by Pakistani troops during liberation war 1971.”
Earlier, police had also recovered an anti-tank cannon shell in an abandoned condition in Chittagong city’s Baizid area on February 2 which was disposed by Bomb Disposal unit of Bangladesh Army.
