An Awami League leader has been chopped to death at Khalishatola under sadar upazila in Noakhali.
The deceased is Md Babul Mia 52, son of Md Habib Ullah of Khalishatola village. He was the member of Char Matua Union Parishad and the Vice- President of the union's Awami League unit.
Quoting locals, Sudharam OC Anwar Hossain said: "Miscreants attacked Babul Mia and chopped him to death when he was returning to his house around 12:30am."
Being informed, police went to the spot and recovered the body.
The body has been sent to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination, said the OC.
Sadar upazila Awami League President Advocate Shihab Uddin Shaheen claimed that Babul was killed by Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir members over political rivalry.
The OC said a case has been filed.
