SSC examinees endure another rescheduling

Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled for today and Tuesday were rescheduled for February 13 and 14 respectively because of the 72-hour general strike imposed by the BNP.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the new dates while addressing a press beefing at Chittagong Circuit House yesterday.

He said today’s English first paper test would be held from 9am to 12pm on February 13 and Tuesday’s English second paper exam would be held from 10am to 1pm on February 14.

Students of madrasa board and the technical education board would also take their tests according to the new schedule.

The education minister said the exams were deferred as the lives of students could not be put in danger.

He said members of the law enforcement agencies were extending their best assistance to students so that they could take the exams without any trouble.

This was the third time the government had to reschedule the SSC exams because of the BNP strike.

Before speaking at the press briefing, Nahid and top Chittagong education board officials visited three test centres.

Meanwhile, frequent changes to test schedules have worried examinees.

Ashfaq Ahmed, who are sitting the exams at Azimpur Girls School and College centre, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday the uncertainty over the exam dates made it difficult for him to take better preparations.

Parents also said they were concerned about the future of their children while calling on the political parties to take steps for resolving the existing crisis.

Habibur Rahman, a guardian, said: “We want to have a fixed exam schedule that will remove the worries of the students. Exams can be taken on every Friday and Saturday, but it has to be decided in a way so that there is no need to make frequent changes.”
