Gibson calls parties to refrain from violence

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson has called upon all political parties to refrain from inciting or committing acts of violence and intimidation.

The diplomat expressed his sadness and regrets to learn of the continuing loss of lives and injuries, as well as the detrimental effect on children’s education and the economy caused by the ongoing violence across the country.

His statement appeared in the official facebook page of British High Commission in Bangladesh on Thursday.

In the statement, he said: “I hope that all sides will refrain from inciting or committing future acts of violence and intimidation.”

He said: “I am deeply saddened that within the last month, over 50 people have been killed and many hundreds more horribly injured in acts of violence across Bangladesh.”

“The UK continues to call on both the government and all parties to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law, and to come together to break this cycle of violence and disruption.”

Gibson said the tragic death of so many in Comilla on Tuesday is the latest example of how innocent people are paying the ultimate price for the ongoing situation.

In this regard he also extended his condolences to the families of all those who have been affected.

Gibson said many children have had their education badly affected, the economic cost grows daily. This is having a detrimental effect on the development and stability of the country.
