Khaleda sued in Comilla arson cases

BNP chief Khaleda Zia has been named mastermind in two cases filed over the petrol bomb attack on a bus in Comilla that left seven people burnt alive.

Chouddogram police SI Nuruzzaman filed the cases -- one for murder and another Explosives Substances Act -- against 76 leaders and activists of BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami.

Zubair murder case verdict now Feb 8

The verdict in Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case has been deferred to February 8.

Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 passed the order as the accused could not be produced before the court on Wednesday on security grounds.

Students have again formed a human chain in front of BNP's Gulshan office demanding withdrawal of the ongoing general strike and blockade of streets and waterways.

A youth has been shot in police firing while fleeing after hurling a petrol bomb on the law enforcers in Amtala area at Khilgaon of Dhaka.

Injured Kawsar, 25, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody.

At least 11 killed in Taiwan plane crash

At least 11 people were killed and up to 19 were missing after a Taiwanese TransAsia Airways plane with 58 passengers and crew on board crashed into a river shortly after taking off from a downtown Taipei airport on Wednesday, officials said.

As many as 28 people however appeared to have escaped miraculously from the crash after the plane lurched sickeningly between buildings, clipped an overpass with its port-side wing and crashed upside down in the shallow river.

IS video shows burning of hostage

Islamic State militants released a video on Tuesday appearing to show a captured Jordanian pilot being burnt alive in a cage, a killing that shocked the world and prompted Jordan to promise an "earth-shaking" response.

A Jordanian official said the authorities would swiftly execute several militants in retaliation, including an Iraqi woman whom Amman had sought to swap for the pilot taken captive after his plane crashed in Syria in December.
