3 killed in Chittagong road mishaps

Three persons including a driver and a helper have been killed in separate road accidents at Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong and Customs House intersection area in the port city.

The deceased were identified as Omar Faruk, 35, son of Ali Hossen, hailing from Begumganj of Noakhali and Md Sohag, 30, son of Md Siraj of Noakhali, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Farid Uddin, in-charge (IC) of Jorarganj Highway police outpost.

Faruk was the driver of a covered van while Sohag was the helper, said the police official.

SI Farid said a Chittagong-bound readymade garment (RMG) products-laden covered van coming from Dhaka hit with the roadside trees at Jamaler Dokan area on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway of Mirsarai upazila.

The incident took place as the driver lost his control over the steering while overtaking another truck at around 6:30am.

The driver and the helper died on the spot, said the SI adding police recovered the bodies and handed them over to the family members.

Moreover, Joynal Abedin, 35, a jetty worker was killed when a speedy covered van rammed him in Chittagong city’s Customs House area under Bandar police station, said Nayek Shilbrata Barua of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost.

The accident took place while the worker was crossing the road at around 3:30pm, said Nayek Shilbrata.

The worker was taken to CMCH where the on duty doctors declared him dead, he added.
