National ICT Policy draft gets cabinet nod

The cabinet has approved the draft of National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy 2015, aiming to develop and promote the country’s ICT sector and ensure its effective use to achieve the nation’s development goals.

The draft was approved in a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat yesterday, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told the reporters.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Mosharraf said: “The policy is an updated version of the ICT Policy 2009, which has been revised with the opinions of all stakeholders, relevant ministries, experts and professionals taken into consideration.

“It has been made up to date with a view to making the government more skilled and accountable.”

He further said: “The policy has 10 special objectives, 56 strategic themes and 306 action  programmes which will be implemented by different organisations under short-, medium- and long-term timeframe – by 2016, 2018 and 2021.”
