A robber has been killed in a gunfight with police at Obaitala in Patkelghata upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased is Rafiqul Islam,38, son of Babar Ali, of Nawakata village.
Two policemen were also injured during the "gunfight".
Patkelghata police OC Tariqul Islam said they arrested Rafiqul from his house at Nawakata village on Tuesday afternoon.
Following confessional statement of Rafiqul, a team of police launched a drive along with him to recover firearms in Obaitala area around 3:30am.
"Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Rafiqul’s cohorts opened fire forcing the law enforcers to retaliate. Rafiqul was injured with bullet in the gunfight," said the OC.
He said police took Rafiqul to Satkhira sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Later, the body was sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Rafiqul was wanted in several robbery cases with different police stations, added the police officer.
