Police have arrested the regional passport broker in Brahmanbaria who attacked Dhaka Tribune correspondent Mashuk Hridoy.
Brahmanbaria Sadar police OC Akul chandra Biswas told the Dhaka Tribune that the broker, Sheikh Md Ferdous, was arrested from his father-in-law's residence at Sarail upazilla on early Sunday.
He will be produced before the court on Sunday, the OC added.
The Dhaka Tribune's correspondent of Brahmanbaria district Mashuk Hridoy along with two other journalists were in an attack by the regional passport office brokers on January 12.
On that day acting on information that the regional passport office closed their operation from last two weeks, the journalists went there to cover the story. Suddenly, broker Nasir Mia, older brother of District unit Chhatra League President Masum Billah, came to the spot along with his armed cadres and threatened to kill the journalists waving his pistol.
He staved off the cameras and snatched laptop bags from them, alleged the journalists.
At one stage, Nasir punched Masuk in his chest, kicked him and hit his head and neck with pistol-butt, leaving him injured. Later, Nasir also fired some blank shots.
Hearing the hue and cry, locals rushed in and rescued the journalists.
Later, the injured correspondent of the Dhaka Tribune lodged a case with Brahmanbaria Sadar police station in this connection.
