Police have seized 21 modern air rifles and a covered van carrying the firearms in Joyrampur area under Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga.
The rifles and the vehicle were seized around 2am on Friday.
Damurhuda model police station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamruzzaman said: “A patrolling team approached the covered van at Lokhnathpur but the people in it tried to escape the scene.”
“The smugglers abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene as police chased them,” he said.
However, police could not detain anyone in connection to the arms smuggling.
The OC said the rifles are made in India and they might have been imported to the country with plan of subversive acts.
