Minhajul Islam Anik, who sustained injuries in a bomb explosion in Feni during the blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, will be sent to India on Wednesday afternoon for better treatment.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over a cheque for Tk five lakh for the treatment of SSC examinee Anik, said PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury, reports BSS.
Anik's father Mizanur Rahman received the cheque at the Prime Minister's Office at Tejgaon in the capital.
Earlier, the premier took responsibility for the treatment of Anik, a 15-year-old student of Feni Government Pilot High School, and directed the authorities concerned to send him abroad for better treatment.
As part of the initiative, Anik is being sent to a famous eye hospital, "Shankar Netraloy", in Chennai, India, said Shameem.
Anik suffered critical injuries when masked terrorists hurled a crude bomb at him in Khejur Chattar area in Feni town on January 5.
Anik and his classmate Shahriar Rhidoy were returning home by a rickshaw from their private tutor's house at that time.
Various parts of the body of Anik were burnt in the bomb explosion. His both eyes were damaged. He does not see with his right eye, but sees a little with left eye.
Anik was first admitted to Feni Modern Sadar Hospital and later was shifted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He was later taken to the National Institute of Ophthalmology for his eye treatment.
Rhidoy was also wounded seriously in the bomb explosion and the Prime Minister has also taken the responsibility for his treatment.
Rhidoy is now undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology.
