Ghazal soiree at Alliance Francaise today

A ghazal soiree featuring renowned ghazal singer Manzurul Islam Khan will be held today at 5:30pm at Alliance Française de Dhaka in the capital’s Dhanmondi area 

Poet Asad Chowdhury will grace the occasion as chief guest, while lyricist Shahidullah Faraizee, and Chairman of MTR Corporation Ltd Tuhin Reza will be present at the event as special guests.

Manzurul Islam Khan, also a celebrated classical singer, has been performing ghazals since 1982. He started his musical journey from esteemed music school Chhayanaut and went on to complete an advanced course on classical music from Mumbai University. He has performed a number of ghazals, including some Bangla songs originally sung by ghazal legend Jagjit Singh.

He received further training from Ustad Azad Rahman, Ustad Sanjib Dey, Aminul Haque and Ustad Amjad Rahman here at home, as well as from Ustad Usman Khan and Ustad Sanjay Chokroborty in India. Well-known as an avid follower of Jagjit Singh, Manzur also learnt the legend himself for a short while.
