4 killed in Cox’s Bazar road crash

At least four people including a school teacher and her daughter have been killed after a bus hit a microbus head-on at Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at Chokoria upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Friday. 

The deceased are Tahera Beghum, 55, wife of late Md Ismail Hossen, her daughter Tasmima Akhtar, 25, their domestic help Koshinur Akhtar, 20 and Joynal Abedin,40, the driver of the microbus.

In-Charge (IC) of Chiringa Highway Police Outpost Sub-Iinspector Faizur Rahman endorsed the information to the Dhaka Tribune.

Of the deceased, Tahera Beghum was a teacher of a Kindergarten School in Cox’s Bazar and her daughter Tasmima was a MBA student of a private university in Dhaka, he said.

Tasmima succumbed to her injuries while she was on treatments at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) around 2:30 pm, Nayek Shilbrata Barua of CMCH Police Outpost said.

Quoting witness SI Faizur Rahman said a Cox’s Bazar bound picnic bus of Choice Paribahan collided head-on with a Chittagong bound microbus carrying six people in the highway at Baraital area of Chokoria upzila, leaving Joynal, Tahera and Kohinur dead on the spot.

The injured were rushed to Chokoria Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to CMCH for better treatment, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Porvash Chandra Dhar of Chokoria Police Station informed the Dhaka Tribune.

Family members along with Tasmima were going to invite the relative’s in Chittagong city by the microbus as her wedding date was fixed on January 24, family sources informed. 

Police seized the killer bus but the driver managed to flee the scene after the accident, the police official said.
