Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the role of Bangladesh Army during the last national election has helped the government sustain democracy.
She made the statement during a durbar (commonly referred to an open forum) of the 55 Infantry Division in Rajbari's Baliakandi upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Hasina said: “The efficient and neutral role of the army during the January 5 election has helped maintain democracy."
“The army has the ability of thwarting any evil force that comes in the way to protect the sovereignty of Bangladesh,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said internet has been made available to the army officials of all the sectors and an Information Technology Support organisation has been established in the army as part of the vision of a 'Digital Bangladesh'.
The premier said: “Bangladesh Army is not only ensuring peace in the country, but also in the world. We have designed advanced training for them.”
Meanwhile, Hasina personally monitored a workshop of army personnel which began around noon.
