Miscreants have hacked to death a person and his daughter allegedly after being refused a marriage proposal in Salna area of Gazipur.
The deceased are Saiful Islam, 50, and his daughter Akhi Aktar, 14.
Saiful's elder son Nazrul Islam said local Nuru Mia's son Monir Hossain had been proposing to marry his sister Akhi Aktar for a long time. But his family refused the proposal as the boy was drug addict.
He claimed Monir's men hacked his father and sister following the refusal of marriage proposal around 4am on Thursday.
The injured were first rushed to Gazipur sadar hospital where doctors declared Akhi dead. Saiful Islam was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 11:30am.
Joydebpur police station OC Khandaker Rezaul Hasan Reza said police detained a youth in this connection.
However, the identity of the detainee could not be known.
