Theatre troupe Somoy will stage its renowned satirical play “Shesh Sanglap” today at 7pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. It is Somoy’s 29th production, first staged on December 25, 2009.
The play is an adaptation of noted Egyptian playwright Tewfiq al-Hakim’s “The Sultan’s Dilemma.” The play was translated into Bangla by Syed Jamil Ahmed and M Saiful Alam. Aktaruzzaman directs the play.
The story revolves around a ruling Sultan, son of a slave, who at the height of his power is suddenly faced with the fact that he has never been freed from slavery, and thus is ineligible to be a ruler.
