Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited has refused to backtrack from their earlier decision of not taking part in any activities of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation under the reign of the existing committee.
The three other boycotting clubs – Mariner Young’s Club, Wari Club and Bangladesh Sporting Club – also echoed the same tune to Mohammedan.
Rumours were doing the rounds that the four premier division clubs, led by Mohammedan, might return to the hockey arena after the federation sent letters to these quartet of teams, asking for representatives for the formation of the league committee.
However, Sajed Adel, chairman of Mohammedan’s league committee, said they would remain in their previous stance.
“We will still to our previous stance. We will not take part in any hockey activities under the supervision of the current committee.”
Hockey secretary of Mariner Young’s, Dipu, and Wari and Bangladesh Sporting officials Nazrul Islam and Hazi Mohammed Humayun respectively uttered the same message and assured Mohammedan of their continued assistance.
“I personally tried to solve the issue but it was in vain, despite talking to the National Sports Council, the sports minister and the other officials. The federation did not take any initiative to sit for discussions with us in the last one-and-a-half years,” said Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, director-in-charge (administration) of Mohammedan yesterday.
