Royal Bengal tiger skin seized, 3 held

A gang of poachers has been arrested with the skin, skull, teeth and bones of Royal Bengal Tiger of the Sundarbans from Morelganj area under Bagherhat district on Tuesday night.

After conducting a raid, RAB 8 arrested three members of the poacher gang from the area.

Major Adnan Kabir, deputy commander of RAB 8, endorsed the information at a press briefing at RAB headquarters in Rupatali area of Barisal.

The arrestees are Delwar Sheikh, 35, Nuruzaman Sheikh, 53, and Kabir Haoladar, 40 from Sharonkhola area of Bagherhat district.

Adnan said acting on a tip-off, RAB personnel raided Morelganj bus stand area and recovered the skin, skull, 29 teethes and 24 pieces of bones of a Royal Bengal Tiger from the arrestees.

After interrogations, the arrestees said the gang killed different species of rare animal including eight to ten Royal Bengal Tigers in recent time, the RAB official told the media.

The RAB official also said smugglers collect the skulls, skins, teethes of Royal Bengal Tigers and smuggled those to China.

The RAB will file a case in this connection with local police station.

The RAB also started operations to arrest other members of the poaching gang.
