The International Crimes Tribunal 2 has issued an order to 49 citizens to explain why they made statements on a court order after the three-member tribunal found David Bergman guilty of contempt of court.
The tribunal also directed the foreign ministry to figure out 11 citizens who expressed concerns from abroad and asked them to answer at the offices of Bangladesh consulates by lawyer or own self.
All the 49 citizens were ordered to place their explanations within January 27.
International Crimes Tribunal 2 Registrar Mustafizur Rahaman informed the court order at a press conference on Wednesday noon.
On December 2, following an unprecedented order of the International Crimes Tribunal 2, Dhaka-based foreign journalist David Bergman was imprisoned in the courtroom as the three-member tribunal found him guilty of contempt of court.
British citizen Bergman had to serve a part of punishment for around 10 minutes as the court raised shortly after pronouncing its order.
He has been writing for the past years in his personal blog and some Bangladeshi and foreign media mainly about the ongoing trial of people responsible for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
Apart from the imprisonment in line with the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973, the tribunal also fined Bergman Tk5, 000 as part of the punishment.
