Md Nojibur Rahman, Secretary to Ministry of Environment and Forests, has been appointed as chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Public Administration Division issued a circular yesterday after Finance Minister AMA Muhith made a directive in this regard.
Earlier, finance minister told Dhaka Tribune that the government was trying to appoint a “skilled , honest and perfect person” for the post of the Revenue Board, adding they had already prepared a short list to select chief of the national revenue authorities.
He hoped NBR chairman would be picked from that short list soon.
The finance ministry’s short list included Arosto Khan, a member of Planning Commission, Abdul Karder Sarkar, secretary to cooperatives ministry and NBR member Fariduddin Ahmed.
Officials of Finance Division said the name of Banking Division Secretary Dr M Alsam Alam was included in the list.
Earlier, the government decided not to extend the tenure of NBR Chairman Ghulam Hussain as his contract expired on 8th of this month.
