Rupali Bank heist: Tk1.22 crore recovered

Police have recovered Tk1.22 crore from the residence of Rupali Bank’s Faridpur branch peon Abul Kalam at Shibrampur village under Faridpur sadar upazila.

Police conducted a special drive at the peon’s house around 6.30pm on Sunday and found the money from a poly bag in a drum.

Police Super Jamil Hassan and Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohsinul Haque led the drive.

Earlier in the day, the bank officials found the bank vault unlocked and Tk1.57 crore was stolen.

Police detained five persons including the cashier of the bank and a security guard in this connection.

Bank Manager Khan Md Shahidul Islam said they found the vault locker unlocked as soon as they joined office on Sunday morning.
