Relaxed hartal keeps life normal in Rajshahi city

The blockade on the fourth consecutive day was loosely enforced in Rajshahi city.

No major incident has been took place while peoples from all walks of life took to the streets for their own job.

Peoples were also seen on the streets in large scale and a huge crowd also was noticed at bus terminal and Rajshahi railway station.

The inter-district buses were seen moving on the highway in a large scale while a considerable number of buses and goods laden trucks also left Rajshahi for Dhaka under the security of police and border guard members, confirmed Manjur Rahman Pitar, general secretary of Rajshahi Highway Transport Group.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi police commissioner Muhammad Shamsuddinn told the Dhaka Tribune that additional police forces had been deployed at the main places in the city to avert any untoward situation.

Shamsuddin also said they had decided to ensure security for the transport services to reduce the sufferings of the peoples on the highway by deploying additional polices and BGB members. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday detained three Shibir activists in connection with the city’s police beating up case.

The arrestees were Ilias Sheikh, 35, son of Abdus Samad Sheikh, Shamsuddin, 35, son of Ismail Hossain and Nizam Uddin, 34, son of Khorshed Bepari.

Police picked up them from Asam Colony area under Boalia police station in the city.

After interrogation, RAB handed over the Shibir men to Shahmakhdum police in the afternoon, confirmed officer-in-charge of the police station Sayedur Rahman Bhuiyan.

The OC said the Shibir men were shown arrest in the case filed by Sub-Inspector of Shah Makhdhum police station Jahangir Alam over the attack on police.

About 60 to 70 Shibir leaders and activists are made accused in the case.

Earlier, after the incident, police detained about 23 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir in this connection.

Among the arrestees, eight were produced before a Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday evening while court granted 2 days remand for each.

On Tuesday, four policemen were injured as activists of Jamaat’s student front Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked the law enforcers in Shalbagan area of Rajshahi city with the gun of police after snatching it from the policemen.
