Two forest bandits of Daroga Bahini have been killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel at Khal area of Chadpai Range in Sundarbans.
One of the deceased was identified as Sogir, 32, second-in-command of Daroga Bahini.
Lt Col Faridul Islam of RAB 8 said: “Acting on a tip off, a RAB team raided the Khal area of Chandpai range in Sundarbans around 6:25am on Friday.”
The official said sensing the presence of the law enforcers; the bandits opened fire at the RAB members and tried to flee the place.
Four of the law enforcers were injured during the gunfight, he said.
“In retaliation, the RAB personnel also fired 233 rounds of bullets on the robbers, leaving two bandits dead on the spot,” he added.
Later, RAB members recovered seven foreign pistols, four one-shooters, one 9mm, 177 rounds of bullet, few lethal weapons from the spot.
