The President of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah, has spoken to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia over telephone and inquire about her health.
The two times prime minister of Bangladesh fallen sick after police used pepper spray on her supporters inside her office on January 5 while she was trying to step outside in order to join a public rally.
The BJP chief called the BNP chairperson around 10:15pm on Wednesday, said Khaleda's Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan.
He said: “The Indian politician made the phone call to inquire about Khaleda's health. He wished quick recovery of our party chief.”
“In reply, Khaleda Zia thanked the BJP chief for his concern. She is fine now.”
Many global leaders have also called her to inquire about her well being after the “pepper spray attack,” he added.
She has been confined at her Gulshan party office since last Saturday ahead of a party rally, marking “Democracy Killing Day.”
Although the police have unlocked her party office on Thursday afternoon, she is still staying inside it.
According to recent reports of Indian news outlets, the BNP has sought India's “intervention” over the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh
