Bus torched in capital

A fully packed passenger bus has been set afire in the capital's Nilkhet Intersection on Thursday, the third day of the ongoing nationwide blockade.

Witnesses said unidentified miscreants hurled a Molotov cocktail at the Mirpur-bound bus of New Super Paribahan around 2:30pm.

However, no passenger received injuries in the arson attack as they managed to get down from it immediately, said firefighters.

According to the control room of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, two units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 3:15pm.

Some eight vehicles were reportedly set a blaze during the non-stop nationwide roads and waterways blockade called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

The blockade was declared by the alliance chief, Khaleda Zia, on Tuesday.

She has been under confinement since last Saturday ahead of a public rally on January 5, marking “Democracy Killing Day.”

Although the police have unlocked the main gate of Khaleda's Gulshan office on Thursday afternoon, she is still staying inside.
