Terming the proposed salary scale to the government employees the biggest ever, State Minister for Finance MA Mannan yesterday said the example of enhancing allowance and salary for the government employee would continue in the future.
He hoped that the new pay scale would be implemented from July 1.
“We want an overall national development and to use all the time for development of our motherland,” he said while addressing the 18th inter-club competition of customs, excise and VAT.
Mannan also said the government under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina was relentlessly working to free the country from the curse of terrorism, militancy and fundamentalism. He also urged the public servants to work relentlessly to turn the country into a middle income one within 2021.
Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Golam Hossain and senior officials of customs, excise and VAT, among others, addressed the function as special guests. A total of 900 NBR employees from all over the country attended the event.
The Eighth Pay and Service Commission has recommended doubling the salaries for government employees on an average in its report submitted to the finance minister.
According to the recommendations, the minimum basic pay for civil servants will be now Tk8,200 while the maximum pay would be Tk80,000 – a 100% raise.
