The Anti-Corruption commission yesterday interrogated Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed on an allegation of accumulating wealth illegally.
Deputy Director Ram Mohon Nath questioned him at its headquarters from 10am to 1pm, an official confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune.
After finding proof of his accumulating wealth illegally in primary inquiry, the commission had asked Oli to submit the statements of his and his family members' movable and immovable properties.
Oli submitted his wealth statement to the commission on September 25 last year.
Emerging from the interrogation, the LDP chief yesterday denied amassing any illegal wealth. “Someone named S Ahmed Mia complained against me that I have illegal wealth.
“I believe that if anyone commits corruption or accumulates wealth illegally, he/she should be punished. As the commission is carrying out an inquiry against me, I have taken it as an order of the Almighty.”
He hoped that the ACC would not find anything illegal. “I never earned any illegal income and will not do so in the future,” he claimed.
After submitting his wealth statement, Oli earlier claimed that the inquiry was launched against him as he had refused to become a minister.
Now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau served him notice 18 years back to submit wealth statement. But Oli filed a writ petition with the High Court against the notice. After a long time, the court gave decision in favour of the ACC and ordered it to serve him notice again.
